Hi, I’m Ralene, the owner/director of Body Intelligence Pilates.
I’ve been teaching Pilates since 2006. I hold a Diploma of Polestar Pilates Studio and Rehabilitation Method and a Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction from the Pilates International Training Centre. I am a long-term member of the Pilates Alliance Australasia and a Mentor-In-Training with Polestar Pilates.
I love Pilates because I know it works! Pilates has kept me moving, dancing, and, most importantly, playing with my grandchildren. I love seeing clients leave their sessions feeling stronger, more mobile, and more confident in their bodies.

I was drawn to Pilates some time ago after the birth of my second child. I quickly realised that not only did Pilates help me with my postnatal body, but it also gave me much needed time to focus on myself.
Pilates has kept me flexible and I’ve seen an increase in overall strength and vast improvements in my posture through ongoing practice.I have come from a career background of hospitality, education and sustainability and this love of helping people has led me down the path to becoming a Pilates Instructor.
I am a Certified Practitioner of Pilates Studio (Polestar 2022) and hold a Cert IV in Polestar Pilates Matwork Instruction Method (2018). In addition I have completed a Pre and Post Natal Specialist Certification with The Center for Women’s Fitness (2019), and Child Development & Paediatric Movement with Kids Heart Pilates (2022)

My first experience of Pilates was in the early 90’s at the age of 17 when I was studying classical ballet full-time and had the privilege of learning Pilates under the tutelage of Penny Latey (one of the foundation members of the Australian Pilates Method Association). Since that time, I have been a life-long student of the Pilates method and have found that it has helped me through the challenges of my varied career paths as a part-time Royal Academy of Dancing ballet teacher for 15 years, a public servant for ten years, and as a parent.
Through experiencing the challenges brought about by my own scoliosis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction (post-natally) and, more recently, knee osteo-arthritis (arising as a legacy of her dance training), I am a firm believer in the benefits of Pilates for rehabilitation and injury prevention.
I hold a Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork Instruction (2011) and a Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (2012), both through the Pilates International Training Centre. I was also the Owner / Director of Body Intelligence from October 2012 until April 2016.
I have also undertaken the Yamuna Foot Fitness instructor course and completed Phase 1 of Yamuna’s Body Rolling certification in early 2014.
I have a particular interest in working with injured clients and those with neurological conditions; dancers; and assisting clients to manage and overcome the negative effects of sedentary lifestyles and office-based work.

I have always had a strong interest in health and have worked as a Registered Nurse in Australia and the United Kingdom before retraining in the area of community development, health education and Pilates. Taking a holistic approach to well-being I have worked with a range of clients with the aim of improving physical, mental and emotional health.
I am very enthusiastic about fitness and sport and have previous experience with weight training, yoga, aqua aerobics, netball and cycle coaching. I was a keen long distance road cyclist but now enjoy shorter weekend rides. I have found Pilates an excellent method to strengthen and lengthen tight muscles after a session on the bike. I firmly believe the Pilates method is for anyone who is interested in improving their fitness, posture, coordination and functional movement of the body.
I have a special interest in pelvic floor concerns, hip problems, balance and stability. I enjoys working with all age groups and teaching both Pilates matwork and studio sessions.
In addition to being a registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science (Maj. Health Education), I hold a Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (Pilates ITC) and a Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork Instruction (Pilates ITC) and am a member of Pilates Alliance Australasia. I also have a Certificate Counselling (Relationships Australia)

I have had a life-long interest in movement, particularly dance in all its forms, and was trained in classical ballet. I then explored many exercise modalities, including weights and gravity-based training, stretch therapy, yoga and aqua-aerobics as well as Body Pump, Body Balance, CXWX programs - and found tremendous ongoing benefits not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally, from strength and flexibility training.
I hold a Polestar Diploma of Studio Pilates, Certificate IV Matwork Pilates, a Certificate III in Fitness from the Canberra Institute of Technology and Les Mills certifications.“I am a long-time member of AUSactiv, Australia’s peak body for the exercise and active health sector. My particular area of interest is in foot posture and biomechanics, and I am studying with Anatomy in Motion, UK.
I am inspired by the results that a commitment to Pilates practice can achieve for everyone. I enjoy working with people. I love flowing movement, and designing and teaching Pilates sessions and tailoring classes to adjust to all participants in my class. And I discover with my clients what is our greatest asset in and throughout life - the harmonising of our body and mind, and challenging ourselves, what we can do, how we are evolving, and how best to move with strength and grace.

I have a Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (ITC 2017), and started teaching Pilates professionally in November 2016. However, the more I taught and did my self-mastery, the more curious I became about how the Pilates method of exercise contributes favourably to physical and mental health. So, I feed my curiosity by studying Physiotherapy at University of Canberra so I can learn more of the relationship between movement and the human body. Sometimes it feels that the learning is never ending.
Pilates means body (and dare I say, mind) conditioning to me. I like to think of it this way – my body is a car and Pilates is one of my mechanics. How often I drive my car decides how often I get it serviced. Likewise, if I have not driven my car for a while, I need the mechanic to service it before I drive it again.

Having dealt with scoliosis since youth, I've experienced firsthand the positive impact of movement. Through consistent exercises, I've not only corrected my posture but developed knowledge in the power of movement. Beginning my teaching journey in mat Pilates at 17, I've encountered diverse cases and gained expertise in various environments. Now, as a Pilates instructor, I'm driven to help my clients with the life-changing benefits of mindful movement, guiding them towards enhanced vitality and well-being.

Ralene is terrific and I am benefitting a lot from my exercise and her guidance. I have already recommended friends to her and will continue to do so. ”

“Before I started working with Body Intelligence I had done a bit of Pilates but after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis I was looking for a long term studio to practice Pilates safely and effectively. It has been at least 8 years working with Ralene and I look forward to every workout. It’s a great community of wellness and connection at Body Intelligence, looking forward to many more workouts.

“What particularly works for me at this Studio is that the Instructors will modify my program regularly to provide more challenge and interest for me, but also to adapt the components of the program in the event of additional injury or aggravation. Love it.”
